What is the Evil Eye (Nazar)?

In Islam, the evil eye or nazar is a real and harmful force. It occurs when someone looks at another person with jealousy or envy, intentionally or unintentionally. This look can cause physical, emotional, or spiritual harm. Many people suffer from sudden illness, sadness, or financial loss – often caused by the evil eye.

Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
“The evil eye is real.”

This article will guide you through powerful duas for protection from the evil eye, including Arabic text, English transliteration, and meanings. These duas can help protect your family, children, home, and wealth from unseen harm.

Signs of Evil Eye in Islam

Some common signs that may indicate someone is affected by the evil eye:

  • Loss of appetite or sleep
  • Relationship problems
  • Babies crying non-stop
  • Sudden financial problems

If these symptoms appear suddenly, it’s good to recite Ruqyah and duas for protection.

2. Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Naas (Ruqyah for Protection)

These two short Surahs from the Quran are powerful for protection from all kinds of harm, including nazar, black magic, and jinn.

Surah Al-Falaq (Surah 113):

“Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the Daybreak, from the evil of what He has created, from the evil of darkness when it settles, from the evil of those who blow on knots, and from the evil of an envier when he envies.”

Surah An-Naas (Surah 114):

“Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, the King of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the whisperer who withdraws, who whispers in the hearts of mankind…”

How to Use:

  • Recite both Surahs 3 times in the morning and 3 times in the evening.
  • Recite and blow over your children or yourself.
  • Especially useful before sleeping.

3. Dua the Prophet (ﷺ) Used for Children

When Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) used to protect his grandsons Hasan and Husayn, he recited:

Transliteration:

U’eedhukumaa bi kalimaatillaahit-taammah min kulli shaytaan wa haammah wa min kulli ‘aynin laammah

Meaning:

I seek protection for you both in the Perfect Words of Allah from every devil, harmful thing, and every envious eye.

Tip:

Use this dua every day for your children, especially before they go outside or meet people.

4. General Tips to Protect Yourself from Evil Eye

Besides reciting duas, here are some Islamic tips:

  • Say “MashaAllah”: When praising someone or something, always say MashaAllah to avoid giving them the evil eye.
  • Keep blessings private: Do not show off your wealth, beauty, or success.
  • Daily Ruqyah: Make a habit of reciting Ayat-ul-Kursi, Surah Falaq, Surah Naas, and other protective verses.
  • Avoid jealousy: Envy is a major cause of the evil eye. Avoid jealousy and always pray for others.
  • Use black seed oil or ruqyah water: Applying black seed oil or drinking ruqyah water has spiritual benefits (based on Hadith).

Conclusion: Use Duas Daily for Strong Protection

The evil eye is real, but the protection of Allah is stronger. By reading authentic Islamic duas, you can guard yourself and your family from unseen harm. Make it a daily habit to recite the recommended duas in the morning and evening, especially when leaving the house or attending events.
